Dan Sultan

August 2, 2014

Sultan's Blackbird album marks a step change for this innovative, independent musician who has always followed his own tune, so far with great success.

His second album, Get While Out You Can, earned him an ARIA award in 2010, and helped him earn the best male artist title that year. Following its release in 2009, it went to number one in the Australian independent charts.

A few months after the release of Sultan's third album, Blackbird, the Melbourne rock 'n' soul man's visit to Perth is part of a two-month tour of Australian capitals and regional towns.

Blackbird comes almost five years after Sultan's award-winning last album and last night Sultan told fans of his tough time getting to this point.

Sultan recently parted ways with his longtime collaborator and his producer and signed up with a new manager.

He and his band then went to Nashville to write and record Blackbird with a big name US producer.

The result has had mixed reviews and it is seen by many as a more mainstream offering than Sultan's previous two albums.
